i personally dont use synthetic because it doesnt burn and break down like conventional oil... if the rotary engine "uses" the oil i would think it has to burn out..... i could be wrong and probably am but i do also know some people use synthetic oil and havent had probs. i also would like to know the answer to the question. _________________ Trying to avoid my dirt nap as long as I can. |

| Yeah, unless you use a Richard Sohn adapter, which is what I use on my car. I inject 2-stroke oil to my motor.. |

Exactly the apex seals are fed via metering pump utilizing oil it steals from the engine, Synthetic's does not lubricate the seals correctly causing them to fail prematurely and score the rotor housing.
And for the easy logic if Mazda thought it would be good for it they would be publishing it in the manual and trying to sell it to you at the next oil change and not trying to void your warranty. _________________ "I'm not a pack rat I'm the curator of my own museum!"-skezzism
I am CDO. This is a lot like OCD, except the letters are in alphabetical order... as they SHOULD be. Does anyone remember when things were C.O.D.??

If you guys look at the big board, there's a MASSIVE topic about just this. Skezzer pretty much summed it up, but there's people that swear by the synthetics. Mazda doesn't like it, and most companies are refusing synthetic oil changes on Rotaries. _________________ '04 Titanium Grey 6spd "Reese"

It does say big an bold in the manual "DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC OIL" the long standing reason is it doesn't break down. Synthetic oil also leaves a coat on the inside of the engine which doesn't burn off well... _________________ Ain't no rest for the wicked |
