20b motor - 3000
Rebuild/Misc - 15000
20B Twin Turbo Shinka - Priceless

You forgetting the Shinka is special ed. + rotary (exotic) + 20B (mazda, not just a frankestein LSx (1-?) + VeilSide body kit & other stuff. 28k for a plain 20B versus a ~$35k Shinka + all mods above... You do the math..

Doing the LS1 - LS? upgrade takes out the exotic part of the RX8.

That is so true! I have had an LS1. if I wanted another one, I'd just get a vett.

$3000 for a 20b, that is a good deal, what code engine do you have??? either C or D right???

I predict 25k grand to get it up and running, about the same as what the FD guys are spending right now, tempting.

Since I was balancing e-shaft & rotors the code is not relevant. If I was going to run the motor as it was I would have picked a D. Maybe C with refreshment, not a race build like mine.

Interesting, I've heard the later codes are more suitable for high hp because of some internal modifications to the engines, but I'm far from an expert, in fact I can honestly say that I don't know s#!t. Just keep us posted on the build and the prices.

That's interesting to know, do you know what modifications they are talking about? Sure it's not just balanced rotors & e-shaft? Gaby also do some tricks on the side seals so they don't stick and loose compression... They have 20Bs doing 1000+ hp in PR.

Well this is what I've read, and I quote:

"The 0 and A series had weaker castings around the factory dowel pins, meaning they break under high boost and/or detonation."

"The later style has a front taper and is stronger where the front rotor journal collar sits. " Referring to the E-shafts

I know there's a few more things but those are the main "problems" with the early 20bs, according to those who know, the weaker material on the early coded engines prevent them from high boost applications, there's a few very well documented threads on RX7club, I'll see if I can find those for you.
You can talk to David Hayes from Rx7 club, he's been to heck and back with his 20b conversion, he can tell you all about the 20bs, I met him @ DGRRX, very nice guy.
He took his car to the "best" rotary shops around the country, including pettit, gotham racing, etc.... and after many years, countless problems and tons of money, Jesus Padilla(Kilo Racing) was the one that was able to pull off his conversion.

Like I said before, if all else fails contact Jesus, he'll take care of you.

If and when I have the coin for a conversion, he'll be the one doing it.

I'm good, mine is a B series. Also I am pinning the motor with 3 rods, 1 on the exhaust side, 2 on the compression/detonation side. Ricardo, which does some of or maybe all of Jesus' peripherical work is also helping me out, I think I might take him the rotors/e-shaft to replace the bearing for new ones. It's costing me a bit, but I am doing it right. All new internals + working and proved mods.

My car is going to shop Monday to take 13B out. Guess why? Smile

Updates: (only have pic of turbos, will post more pics Monday)

Have: Motor has been ported, "pinned" and 13B RX7 "casquillos" have been cut for max exhaust flow. I have side seals, corner seals, apex seals, microtech lt-16x, two turbo's.

Need: Coils, turbo manifold & turbo intake, 3.5" exhaust.

Pushing for 400hp (tranny & rear-end won't hold and fuel pump is a MazSport good for over 400hp but don't want to run lean, gotta drive it gentle)

All this is done on the 20B not the RX8 motor. I am taking the 13B RX8 motor out of the car so we can do motor mounts, test-fit, etc etc the 20B (mok)

Update: Learned my lesson, if you have aftermarket computer don't leave ignition on! Left car with Ignition on by accident, burned all 4 coils.. :/

Ordered 6 MSD 8207's for 20B, will use 4 to take car to shop unless someone has 4 coils laying around I can borrow Very Happy
